About the Higher Education Consultants Association
We are very proud that the HECA 2012 Conference will be held at the Hamilton Park Hotel and Conference Center near the campuses of both Drew and Fairleigh Dickinson Universities, with easy access by train to New York City. Early surveys indicate that a record number of independent counselors (150-200) plan to attend the Conference. With pre-conference events, workshops, college tours and more, this promises to be an exceptional learning experience for independent consultants nationwide to learn more about the wonderful colleges in the area. Since many students wish to study in and around New York City, HECA members are eager to learn more about the programs and opportunities offered by colleges in the region in order to best advise their students.
The Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) is a professional organization focused exclusively on the practice of independent college admissions consulting. Since 1997, HECA has been dedicated to advancing professional standards for the higher education consulting field, while supporting our members as they expertly guide students through the transition from high school to college. Our members:
- Serve the college planning needs of more than 15,00 high school seniors annually.
- Have many families with the resources to consider the full range of college opportunities.
- Actively assist low-income students through volunteer service.
- Work with international students as well as graduate students.
- Assist thousands of families each year with college and financial aid decisions.
- Demonstrate a commitment to their own professional development by staying current with trends in college admissions and by visiting and researching individual colleges.
- Are small business owners who are the primary purchase decision makers for their businesses
- Are experienced and successful professionals (88% in business more than two years; 52% in business more than five)
- Are highly educated (all members hold a bachelor’s degree; 73% hold a master’s degree or higher)
- Abide by HECA Standards and Ethics and NACAC’s Statement of Principles of Good Practice
